The Rainbow Pen

daedriusNov. 7th, 2004 05:25 pm Ottawa Zine Writer's Community

Please forgive the intrusion, but I'd like to take a moment of your time and introduce ottawazines, a new community for zine writers and readers in the Ottawa area.
It's a place to promote your zine or requests submissions for content.

We have a lot of very telent artists in Ottawa, let people know you're one of them
Let everyone witness your creative genius!

(I've x-posted this a zillion places, sorry for any repetition your Friend's List experiences!)

pollyethyleneOct. 7th, 2004 08:11 pm Hellooo?

Hmm I don't how active this group is at the moment, but I'm Jenna, and I'm running the zine/publications at the GLBT centre now. (I'm new/first year and kind of frightened, but I'm going to try to my best...)

I have some ideas for what I want to do with it, but I'm also very interested in what everyone else wants to write about.. because I don't want to be all lame and authoritarian and make you write about something that you don't find interesting.

I guess there is a writing group in real life that goes along with this live journal? Hopefully some sort of time for meetings can be figured out.. I know it's probably hard with classes and whatnot... mah...

Alright well.. I guess (if anyone actually reads this), I'll see you around the centre. g'day

hexpiritusMar. 29th, 2004 09:23 pm Rainbow Pen Meeting on Tuesday March 30th

This is the plan for tomorrow, since the meeting on Friday April 2nd is cancelled.

1) I will be at the center from 4-7:30pm for Rainbow Pen. I will be:
a) reading excerpts from my novels, plays, and short stories
b) collecting responses from anyone who happens into the Center about Love and Lust for the last zine of the year
c) reading erotica from De Sade's Juliette

2) At 7:30pm, whoever is at Rainbow Pen will migrate with me to Mike's Place for the Open Mic and hopefully anyone who wants to read some work will have a chance at the spotlight

Thank you very much for your patience, and I'm still accepting submissions for the zine.

sorry guys for another entry that you'd probably read somewhere else, but here's the deal. There's this thing at Carleton University GLBT Centre, on Friday, April 2nd, @6pm. It's a workshop and discussion group held by Triangle trash. As some of you might or might not know, Triangle trash is a grassroots queer collective in Ottawa. Want to get involved, and um, be political, and stuff? Yeah, you do. You should go. Really. It'd be fun!
That is all. hope to see you there.

hexpiritusMar. 25th, 2004 11:18 pm Rainbow Pen Meetings Are Unfortunately Postponed

Tomorrow, and next Friday, Rainbow Pen will not be taking place. Instead, Rainbow Pen will be taking place Tuesday, and the following Tuesday, if exam times permit. There will be an Open Mic @ Mike's Place this Tuesday, which the circle will migrate to after sharing some stories.

Still waiting for submissions for the last issue of the school year.

hexpiritusMar. 11th, 2004 12:24 am ATTENTION! Friday March 12's Meeting...

... is cancelled due to a Masquerade happening at 7 downtown that I will be attending. If you would still like to have a meeting, chances are I am willing to run the Writer's Circle from 5-6pm on Friday, but sometime during the end I will be changing into my formal attire for the evening.

Apologies on the short notice, and a reminder on the zine:
PLEASE send me more submissions. So far I've only got a hefty amount of submissions from TWO PEOPLE. Erica, Lara, Ben, I'm expecting some love or lust stories from the two of you. Anyone else who wants to contribute with pictures, etc., please do so.

hexpiritusFeb. 19th, 2004 12:00 am It's that time again! The Continuum needs YOUR submissions!

So, next Friday is movie fest, but it's also when the first issue of Continuum finally FINALLY will be able to circulate. It's free, but all contributors will get shiny fancy copies, while those who show up at the center last will only get craptacular copies. Not only will the first issue be coming out, but I need submissions for the second issue.

THEME: Love and lust.

Go wild with this one, people. Send as many things as you can that can be jam-packed in an ickle zine. The second issue is going to be even more amazing than the first.

It's Changed Again

I've kissed you once
I'll kiss you again
and it will be new
and it will be good
I will be kissed
and it shall remake me and
I shall find that my world has changed

And I'll rub your back
when you cough
and worry
and care
But you will be fine
and I worry without need
(though I do care)

And we will walk hand in hand
and I'll see it from the inside
not the outside
like before
I will see them from the outside
and remember what it was like
I have found my eyes have changed

Pay Attention to Anything You Want

I have walked this road a thousand times; and each time it changes. Oh, sure, it looks the same, but I can tell. There are four traffic lights, a newspaper box, and lines, but it always changes. Even if the season hasn't changed, it's different because I'm different. I see the snow from a different angle, and notice the crystals shining like stars on a field of white. The air smells clean because a bus hasn't gone by recently, and there is a breeze. Salt grits under my boots, but sometimes snow scrunches instead. Sometimes the snow is just dirty with sand. Sometimes I step in fresh snow, other times I walk in my footprints from the morning. It is never the same twice, because nothing is ever the same, it only seems like it. We need to pay attention.
